about

For Christmas 2019, Chatsworth House invited visitors to "discover lands afar, following in the footsteps of explorers Phileas Fogg and Amelia Earhart. Our guides lead you on a festive adventure around the globe as you travel from a Nordic winter wonderland, through blossom trees in Japan, to a baroque Spanish church on the journey of a lifetime."

'The Tales of Old Japan' unfolded in the Great Chamber. Inspired by the folklore collected by A.B Mitford, grandfather to Deborah Duchess of Devonshire, during his travels in Japan, creative studio Lord Whitney brought to life an ethereal winter landscape. Cherry blossom, fragile and beautiful, spilled into magical snow drifts in an immersive scene that invited visitors to become part of the fairytale.

Commissioned by Lord Whitney, Buffalo created a looped soundscape to complement the immersive installation.
